For others, the warehouse needs evidence before approving credit, sending a replacement, recovering value, filing a carrier claim, or pushing the return into repair, quarantine, or disposal.

The risk is not only fraud. Weak returns evidence creates refund leakage, slow customer service research, inventory mistakes, resale delays, vendor disputes, and messy chargeback conversations. A buyer evaluating returns automation should look beyond speed at the dock. The photo rules should be specific. "Take pictures" is too vague. A better rule is: "For damaged returns, capture exterior carton, shipping label, internal packaging, item damage, and serial label before the carton is discarded."

Clean, low-risk returns can move through a lighter path. High-risk returns should require stronger evidence before refund approval or inventory disposition.
